Two big each-way shouts at York over next 48 hours
Scarlet Dragon runs in his first handicap for two years at York today, having been brought forward 24 hours after, as expected, he was balloted out of tomorrow’s £1m Ebor.
Dropping back both in distance and from Group company might well benefit Scarlet Dragon, who had no luck in running when fourth over a mile and a six furlongs at Glorious Goodwood.
Maybe significantly both Alan and Wayne Hutchinson, who knows Scarlet Dragon so well, having won well on him over hurdles, have both expressed the view that they believe that a fast-run 12 furlongs suits the horse best, so it could well be a blessing in disguise that Henry Ponsonby’s money-spinner missed the Ebor cut.
At Ffos Las today Alan has booked Megan Nicholls for the mount on Tritonic, who has proved the best of the stable’s two-year-olds so far, having run with plenty of promise to belie odds of 50-1 when finishing a close up fourth on his debut at Haydock. The experience there will, hopefully, have brought him on.
And we also have a live each-way shot tomorrow with Beringer in the 10-furlong handicap at York. Like Scarlet Dragon, he experienced traffic problems at Goodwood, where he just missed out on a place, having previously failed by a whisker to get up at Sandown.
Beringer is as solid as a rock at both eight and 10 furlongs, and Andrea Atzeni knows him so well, so here’s hoping for another big run.
