Ascot hero Coeur de Lion aims for more glory at Goodwood
Coeur de Lion captured the Ascot Stakes at last month’s Royal meeting, and Alan hopes that he might complete the big staying handicap double by adding Wednesday’s Goodwood Stakes to those gains.
Disappointing when second-favourite for this marathon two years ago, Coeur de Lion is now at the top of his game, and Alan said:”He’s a smashing little horse who, besides winning six races, has finished second no fewer than seven times.
“It was his third crack at the Ascot Stakes, and, though he had worn cheekpieces before, I think the first-time visor was beneficial, so we are sticking with that.
“The 5lb claim of Thore Hammer Hansen definitely helped, and he gave Coeur de Lion a terrific ride, and the allowance will again come in handy as the horse is now 3lb higher.”
We also have Potterman in action tomorrow at Bangor, and the drying ground will help his cause. He ought to be sharper for his comeback run at Market Rasen.
