Debut success puts Tritonic on Triumph Hurdle trail
Tritonic passed the first test towards a tilt at the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham in March when making a winning debut over jumps at Ascot on Saturday. Bookmakers chopped his odds for the juvenile hurdling crown to 14-1.
It was only close home that Tritonic, a 99-rated horse on the Flat, having been beaten only half a length at Royal Ascot, got on top of Casa Loupi to win by a length.
But jockey Adrian Heskin was perfectly satisfied. He said:”Tritonic over-raced for the first mile, and I had to sit and suffer a bit for the first mile.
“Casa Loupi ended up getting quite a stretch on me, but from the home turn I was always confident that I would be able to pick up the first two.
“Sure, it proved a bit tougher than I expected, but Tritonic showed plenty of grit and determination and he was brave up the straight.”
