Dunkerron returns at Newbury tomorrow
Both Dunkerron‘s two wins last season were over six furlongs, so it will be interesting to see how he shapes returning to that trip in the Listed Carnarvon Stakes at Newbury tomorrow.
Alan said:”Dunkerron is such a good worker at home and has been impressing on the gallops, and, though he has not grown much through the winter, he has filled out in all the right places and I am looking forward to getting him back on track again.”
Dunkerron’s best performance in his first season was when finishing second in the Group 2 Vintage Stakes (7f) at Glorious Goodwood, but he had previously been beaten only three lengths in the July Stakes at Newmarket over this shorter trip, and the winner, Advertise, went on to capture a G1 in Ireland.
He will be accompanied in the box to Newbury by Cosmeapolitan, who runs in the Toronado Handicap, and Top Tug, who has another crack at Pattern company in the G3 Aston Park Stakes. He has not won for two years but his consistency means he receives little respite from the handicapper, so with more than £56,000 awaiting the winner why not roll the dice again with the big boys.
Cosmeapolitan is another who is fairly high in the handicap, and, while he has been a star on the all-weather, he has also won a couple on the turf, and as this mile would be his minimum distance, a fast-run race should suit him well.
Over jumps we have two going to Bangor tomorrow, Stockburn, who made a pleasing debut over fences when third at Chepstow, and Didonato, a Milan filly who makes her debut in the bumper.
And on Sunday we have three runners at Market Rasen, including Newtown Boy, who make his debut over fences.
