Five new recruits from Newmarket last week
Having celebrated his best-ever tally of winners (32) in a turf season on the level this year, Alan, though now turning his attention to the jumpers for the next few months, remains very much involved on what’s been happening on the Flat.
Only last week Alan was busy up at Newmarket’s Tattersalls Horses in Training Sales, and he was delighted to return to Barbury with five new recruits.
Top price of the quintet was four-year-old Reverend Jacobs, bought for 100,000gns out of William Haggas’s yard, having won three races at Ascot, York and Newmarket.
Alan’s other four purchases were all three-year-olds, and, though Rock Force had not managed a win for Tom Dascombe, he finished in the frame in five of his six races so proved popular, the boss being pushed to 80,000gns to bring him home.
Praeceps, who sprang a 20-1 surprise in a two-mile tapeta handicap at Newcastle last month, looks a useful stayer and fetched 58,000gns, while Tiffin Top, placed four times for John Gosden, cost 20,000gns and Escapability, who had a similar record for Jessie Harrington in Ireland, changed hands for 18,000gns.
