Frantic Friday as we are at four meetings today
Muggy maybe, but it was not exactly Flaming June that we met head-on, opening the curtains this morning, and it’s amazing to think that we are only three weeks off midsummer’s day!
However, at least the monsoons seem to have passed over – for the time being anyway – and it has been a good week with Alan receiving news from Anthony Bromley that his April purchase Shannon Hill, an impressive point-to-point winner in Herefordshire, is en route to Barbury to join the team.
Shannon Hill, knocked down at the Goffs UK (Aintree) Sale for £85,000, is a taking Kayf Tara individual and was bought for the Grech-Parkin team, who enjoyed such a successful winter last season.
Meanwhile, we have a Frantic Friday in prospect today, with four runners at different meetings, one over jumps and three on the Flat.
Desiremoi d’Authie gets the ball rolling at Market Rasen, where we hope he’ll settle better than he did at Warwick last month – he was a French bumper who has the talent when he learns to relax – and no sooner has he run that we’ll be off to find a television screen to watch Elgin at Catterick.
Elgin was a very useful hurdler last season and he built on his promising Wolverhampton Flat debut when winning at Chelmsford last month, so, while he has to shoulder a 7lb penalty, he should appreciate being back on turf and is, not surprisingly, a warm favourite on the North Yorkshire course.
Our other two runners today are in the evening, with Dunkerron making his debut down at Goodwood, followed by Giving Glances going for the fillies handicap at Doncaster.
Giving Glances is the younger full-sister to Giveaway Glance, who won for us at Windsor on Monday, so, hopefully, following her encouraging fourth at Chepstow recently, it could be a case of topping up the family celebrations for the Pitchall Stud Partnership.
