Just In Time just keeps on rolling
It has been a brilliant 12 months for Alan, but no horse in the yard has been more of a revelation than Just In Time, who attempts to win his sixth race during that period when he takes his chance is what is always a hugely competitive Mallard Handicap at Doncaster tomorrow.
On this very same day last year, Just In Time defied a 5lb rise in the ratings to win a class five handicap on the polytrack at Kempton off a mark of 65, having only celebrated his first success off 60 at Goodwood a fortnight earlier.
Further success has followed at Leicester, Sandown and Goodwood again, and so impressive was Henry Ponsonby’s gelding on the Sussex Downs three weeks ago that he took another 10lb hike so now needs a career-best performance off his new mark of 94, an improvement of 35lb in just one year.
Even so, bookmakers, who have come to be beware of Just In Time, have our fellow only a point off heading the market, so here’s hoping Henry and his syndicate members will be popping corks yet again on Town Moor.
