Let’s hope we are pulling at least one Boxing Day cracker
Another excellent week-end, with Azzerti winning at Ascot and the versatile Redicean bolting up on the Flat at Lingfield, not to mention the brilliant second from Lisp in the £150,000 handicap hurdle on the Royal Heath and brave thirds from The Glancing Queen in the Ascot bumper and Scarlet Dragon in the Listed race at Lingfield.
We’ve had a busy week, so it’s a relatively quiet Boxing Day, though we do have three going to Huntingdon – Deyrann de Carjac, Potters Vision and Second Time Around – with Big Chief Benny flying the flag for Barbury in the staying handicap hurdle at Kempton and Jaboticaba going for the two-miler at Fontwell.
Alan said:”Deyrann de Carjac was a good second to Pym on his seasonal reappearance at Chepstow, giving the winner 6lb, and he then fell in the Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham when staying on and just starting to pick them up.
“Two miles in such a hot race had him flat out from the start, and he’ll be much better suited by this step up in trip.
“I’m hoping for better from Potters Vision in the bumper. I was a little disappointed with her debut in the spring, but I’m much happier just now, while Second Time Around, who runs in the novice handicap chase, might find this two and a half mile trip as short as he wants but is ready to get started over fences.
“Big Chief Benny had been off since Boxing Day 2016 when he ran at Newbury last month, so he should improve a lot. He’s been working well.
“Finally, Jaboticaba will be better suited by the slow ground at Fontwell than he was the faster conditions at Wincanton last time. He, too, seems in good form at home.”
