Lexington Law looks for career-best on the Flat at Lingfield on Saturday
We ended 2018 in a blaze of glory with Nobby an impressive winner of the bumper at Warwick on New Year’s Eve – “he might be one for Aintree in April,” observed Alan – while the Flat horses continue to do us proud with Cosmeapolitan and Caspar the Cub giving us a one-two in the big handicap on the polytrack at Lingfield.
Hopes today centre around Bastien and Arkyn today at Lingfield, where they survived a morning inspection, but looking ahead to Saturday we are back at the Surrey course for a polytrack meeting on the Flat and looking forward to Lexington Law in the Betway Handicap.
Alan said:”Lexington Law didn’t take to hurdling, so we switched him back to the Flat and he couldn’t have been more impressive at Kempton last month.
“He’s now on a career-high mark of 93 so will need to improve again, but I feel that a strong-run mile and a quarter might suit him even better and he seems in very good order.
“Another who might appreciate switching codes is Nylon Speed, who reverts to the all-weather in the mile and a half handicap.
“He hasn’t been coping with the slower ground over jumps, but he won in good style the last time he ran on the Flat at Kempton, so we are returning to the polytrack.
“Like Nylon Speed, Seaborough, who is in the other 10-furlong handicap, has also struggled on the slow ground over jumps, so the plan is one run before he heads off to the Doncaster Sales at the end of the month.”
Alan reports that the first half of January will be a relatively quiet time for the jumpers – “we’ll have the odd runner but most of them need a break, and I have no complaints as 2018 was very satisfactory, with 119 winners in the calendar year and my best ever Flat season.”
