We are after the megabucks at Newmarket tomorrow
We have two interesting runners on the Flat at Newmarket tomorrow, Beringer in the £80,000 mile and a quarter handicap and Elgin, whose target is the £50,000 mile and six handicap.
Elgin returns after a six-week break, and, though he’s a class hurdler, having finished fifth in the Champion, he has also done well on the Flat this summer.
He couldn’t have been more impressive in his novice on fast ground at Catterick, with the form receiving a boost when the runner-up (Saroog) won his next two, at Goodwood and Sandown. Elgin now runs in his first handicap off a mark of 98.
Beringer was thwarted in his hat-trick bid by Wissahickon at York, but he travelled like a dream and the handicapper was impressed and put him up 5lb. He now gets a 2lb weight pull with the winner so he ought to be again in the thick of it.
