Royal Ascot hero Scarlet Dragon returns at soggy Haydock
We are at Haydock, Doncaster and Sandown on Sunday, with the Esher course staging one of the races of the season, the Coral Eclipse Stakes, in which the brilliant Enable taking on the trailblazing Ghaiyyath.
Our Sandown runner is Chatez in the Coral Challenge. The nine-year-old has been a real stalwart for the yard, and considering he was a bit keen on his first race for 14 months in the G3 Diomed Stakes at Newbury three weeks ago, it was a sound enough return.
At Haydock our three-horse raid is led by Scarlet Dragon, who gave Hollie Doyle her first Royal Ascot winner when rattling home late to land the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap earlier this month. Cieren Fallon takes over in the Old Newton Cup, and, though Scarlet Dragon has come out of Ascot fine, he would not want the ground to become too testing.
Duke of Condicote‘s recent Windsor second was a career-best performance, so he heads for the bet365 Handicap at the top of his game, while Chicago Doll, our other Haydock runner, would have needed her recent Pontefract outing, her first for eight months.
Our two Doncaster runners are both in the same race. Inchicore belied big odds when finishing fourth first time out at Newbury, while Perfect Predator, though a bumper winner at Taunton, is having his first run on the Flat.
