Alan has made no secret of his view that Scarlet Dragon is the best novice hurdler in the yard this season, and, though Doncaster tomorrow comes less than a fortnight after his win at Huntingdon, the boss is keen to give him “a bit more match practice”.

Reflection on the victory of Scarlet Dragon, who has been in good form on the Flat, Alan said:”I was very pleased with him there as he did plenty wrong, taking an awful hold but finishing his race out well. That will also have done his confidence good, and he has quickly recovered from those exertions.

“The Dovecote at Cheltenham at the end of the month and the Supreme at Cheltenham could be targets, but we are taking things one race at a time for now.”

Another we have pencilled in for the Festival is Chosen Path, who is also bound for Town Moor and the novice chase en route to a possible tilt at the Ultima Handicap Chase, which is sponsored by the horse’s part-owner.

Alan added;”He jumped really well when winning at Newbury, showing how he had benefited from the experience he gained at Plumpton, and this three miles should suit him.”
