This is the time of year when every trainer dreads walking into a box to find one of his stars have suffered a hiccup, and just eight days before the curtain goes up for the 2018 Cheltenham Festival Alan has been forced to rule out our star novice chaser Sceau Royal from the Arkle on the opening day.

Alan said:”It is just a little niggle but enough for us to stop. There is no point in hiding it so we have put a line through Cheltenham and Simon (Munir) and Isaac’s (Souede) vet will come down to the yard this week and have a look at Sceau Royal, and we’ll decide what to do then.

“Put it this way, we won’t be taking any chances. If he is not right we will finish him for the season and come back next winter.”

Sceau Royal, who was only just below the best over hurdles, has taken well to fences, winning four of his five races over the larger obstacles. He was third-favourite for the Arkle.
