Signs looking good for Scarlet Dragon at Newbury
Flippance has been a huge price in all hers three runs so far, but she runs in her first handicap off a mark of 53 at Chelmsford this evening, so we are all hoping she might be more competitive.
Similarly, we have fingers crossed that Scarlet Dragon can defy topweight in Saturday’s Dubai Duty Free Handicap at Newbury.
With Hollie Doyle suspended, Alan needed a jockey, but the go-to man all summer has been Jim Crowley, so the former champion is back on board, having won on Scarlet Dragon over this course four years ago.
The old horse will encounter faster ground than he has of late, but he seems to be able to handle all types of underfoot conditions, and, having just run out of petrol after being bang there at the two-furlong pole in the Ebor at York, he will appreciate dropping back to a mile and a half. Granted, a fast pace, he could run very well.
