Top Tug better drawn for his third crack at Royal Ascot
Top Tug has his third tilt at the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap at Royal Ascot on Friday and looks sure to run his customary solid race.
Alan said:”Top Tug was a close fourth last year off 105, and I was relieved that the handicapper left him on that mark after his good comeback second at Goodwood, otherwise he would not have got in the race. He has been so consistent for us and will hopefully again be bang there at the finish.
Somewhat surprisingly, nine of the last 10 winners have come from a double-figure draw and things can get crowded on the inside, but, though we were drawn 17 last year – the first two home came from 18 and 19 – ideally you want to be a bit lower and stall 10 looks ideal.
We also have three runners at Chelmsford today, and Alan added:”We opted out of York last week with Nathan when the ground became too fast, so we are trying our luck on the polytrack.
“He improved all through last summer and was gelded in the winter, and we are looking forward to getting him started in the mile and a quarter handicap.
“Elysees won so well at Sandown last week that the handicapper put him up 8lb, so he goes again with his 6lb penalty in the mile and six handicap, and Guitar Georgia has her first run in the fillies median auction.”
