War Chief dances home at Salisbury
Monday October 10
War Chief was backed as if defeat was out of the question in the opener at Salisbury today, and the 5-4 favourite, building on a promising debut on the tapeta at Wolverhampton, duly bolted up.
Winning jockey Jimmy Fortune said:”War Chief was green early on, having half missed the kick, but it made it easier to get him settled and I never felt we were going to get beaten.
“He really lengthened when I popped the question and came from last to first, pulling right away in the last furlong. He’s a nice horse alright, and going back to a mile will suit him. He’ll get 10 furlongs no problem, too.”
