We land the one-two in the Cesarewitch Trial
Sunday September 24
Three runners over jumps today – Midnight Cowboy at Uttoxeter and both Lord Huntingdon and City Dreamer at Plumpton – but yesterday Henry Ponsonby and his team were in jubilant mood at Newbury, cheering on home Who Dares Wins as he beat stablemate Coeur de Lion in the Cesarewitch Trial up at Newmarket.
Ponsonby, who has snapped up the 28-1 about Who Dares Wins for the Cesarewitch on October 14, said:”He needed the 4lb penalty to ensure his place in the race, and the Newmarket marathon has been the target since he ran so well in the Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting. Alan won the Ces two years ago with Grumeti, and let’s hope we can pull it off again for him.”
Coeur de Lion, running a cracker on his first outing since winning at Nottingham in May, would need a mass exodus to get in the Cesarewitch as he has only 7st 7lb, but Who Dares Wins looks tailor-made for the race, and even with the penalty the owner remains confident.
