Nayati did what everyone at Barbury hoped he would and wrapped up a successful 2017 with a winning debut over hurdles at Newbury yesterday, and now we look to Yanworth to give us the perfect start to the New Year in the Betbright Dipper Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham tomorrow.

Success for Yanworth would be the ideal way for Alan to enjoy his own mid-season break, and he looks upon a first taste of chasing experience at Prestbury Park as “something that will stand him in good stead for later on”.

Alan added:”I was very happy with Yanworth’s second in the Newbury Grade 2 and he will have learned plenty from that. His only real jumping blemish came three out, but he recovered and came home with a rattle and he was never going to be able make up five lengths on a horse like Willoughby Court is such a short space of time.

“He needs the match-practice and I’ve had this race in mind for some time, while the 5lb pull we have with Willoughby Court should bring us even closer together.”

Reflecting back to Newbury, Alan concluded:”It was a very pleasing start for Nayati on what was only his third appearance on a racecourse. He did everything right and we’ll look for something else in a month or so.”
