Busy pre-Ascot week-end ahead
Friday June 16
Refreshed from his pre-Ascot break away to recharge the batteries, Alan is finalising a small but select team for Royal Ascot next week, but meanwhile we have runners at three meetings today and are also involved tomorrow and Sunday.
Alan said:”Burguillos goes up to York today for the 10-furlong handicap, and coming back in trip might suit him.
“He was impressive when winning on fast ground at Leicester and then ran well under his penalty when runner-up here on the Knavesmire.
“Being by Lope de Vega, soft going that day would not have inconvenienced him, but the mile and a half in those conditions might have stretched his stamina, so this mile and a quarter should prove ideal.
“We also have Sir Valentine up there, his target being the 14-furlong handicap. He ran a cracker on his seasonal reappearance at Chester last month, his first run since October. He got tired close home when looking likely to be placed, but it looked a strong race and he’ll come on for that.”
We also have Singula having his first run since being gelded and also his first in a handicap at Sandown, while at Newton Abbot we have Midnight Cowboy going for the hat-trick.
“He has made a good start over fences, winning at Kempton and Warwick, and he is on a high just now and is in his element on this fast ground. He’s only up another 3lb so, though he is also up a grade, I hope that he can again be competitive.”
Tomorrow we have War Chief going to Sandown for the nine-furlong handicap, with a few pencilled in for the short trip to Salisbury on Sunday.
Alan added:”War Chief bumped into two potentially decent handicappers at Goodwood last time but again ran well to finish third. He, too, will hopefully be competitive.”
