How refreshing to be able to work on the grass again
May 17, 2021
Record amounts of rain for the first half of May have scuppered the exercise regime for those of us who love nothing better than a testing walk.
However, at least the rain enabled Alan to get his equine team out on the grass gallops on Saturday, so he is hoping that will sharpen them up when they next appear.
Our only runner today is Wurlitzer at Leicester’s evening meeting, and, while he was well beaten on his return from being gelded at Lingfield last month, it was his first race for five months, so, hopefully, it will have knocked the cobwebs away.
Like Wurlitzer, Who Cares Wins will be making her turf debut in the fillies handicap at Nottingham tomorrow, and she did not enjoy the best of runs up the straight at Lingfield in January.
The Devils Drop belied odds of 25-1 when running a cracker to finish second at Newbury in March, so he should run well in the long-distance chase at Southwell on Wednesday, a race in which we also run The Tourard Man, who might be 15 years of age but still looks very sprightly in the mornings.
