Alan has been lucky when he has dipped his toes in deeper Flat waters at York, and he’s hoping that he might get lucky on the Knavesmire again tomorrow, courtesy of Burguillos in the £50,000 Betway Jorvik Handicap.
He said:Burguillos tries a mile and a half for the first time, but on pedigree that ought not to be a problem and he has improved steadily and produced a career best when winning at Leicester, his first race since being gelded.
“The handicapper put him up 8lb, so running here with his penalty means that he is effectively 2lb well in, and, being by Lope de Vega, a bit of cut in the ground suits him well, as we saw when he won at Salisbury last season. We’ve booked Ryan Moore which is another positive.”
We also have a couple running on the level at Newbury on Friday. We get our two-year-old team rolling with Gravina, a filly from the first crop of Havana Gold who takes on the boys in the six furlong maiden. It will be good to get her started.
“We also have Royal Sunday going for the 10-furlong maiden. He began to get the hang of things late on on his one run at Nottingham last back-end, and he is ready to start off again.”
