Dropping a horse back in grade can do wonders for his confidence, and William Hunter tackles his first Class 4 race for 12 months when he lines up for the Tom Cribb Handicap at Leicester this evening, a race in which we are also represented by Silca Star.

Alan said:”The last time William Hunter ran in this grade was almost 12 months ago when he won the Brighton Challenge Cup so well, and he followed up in a Class 3 at Ascot next time, finishing the season with a super effort in the November Handicap at Doncaster.

“Things have not taken off for him so far this season, but he ran ok at Epsom’s spring meeting and at Ascot in mid-May, since when he has enjoyed a break which will have done him good.

“I’d like to think that William Hunter will be competitive in this grade, but we have also not seen the best of Silca Star, who has very little mileage on the clock and whose chance would increase should the ground dry up.”
