Smart Charger is on a revenge mission in the finale at Kempton tonight
Smart Charger was only beaten a nose by Fictional at Lingfield last time, but he gets a rematch tonight in the Kempton finale and on a pound better terms he could well turn that form around.
Though he has not yet won at Kempton, Smart Charger did run a blinder from a poor draw to finish second on the Sunbury course when trained by Tony Carroll last season, so switching tracks won’t be a problem.
Smart Charger, who won at Yarmouth on only his second run for us in May, wore cheekpieces at Lingfield, but Alan now tries him in a visor and with the in-form Tom Marquand on board, they ought to be bang there again at the finish.
Earlier in the evening we run two in the novice. One Games clearly learned plenty from her debut here in June, because she showed big improvement when defying odds of 100-1 when returning to the same course a month later and finishing third to Beeley.
One Games (Richard Kingscote) will be accompanied to post by Naom0hi (Sean Levey), who is a four-year-old and only had her first run at Lingfield in January. She’ll doubtless need this race after a lengthy absence but she was a late foal so she should improve as she gets more experience.
Alan pulled out Midnight Rumble from Goodwood last week because of the fast ground, but the going at present for Sandown’s meeting tomorrow is ‘good’ so, hopefully, he will be able to take his chance on the Esher slopes.
Midnight Rumble had previously produced a career-best performance when coming from off the pace to finish second at Sandown, and, though now 4lb higher, he should again be involved in the finish. Rossa Ryan rides.
