Es Perfecto bounces back to form when the stable were being counted out by many

Written off by punters because of the poor form of Alan’s horses, Es Perfecto, the stable’s only runner of the day, brought a smile back to the boss’s face when bolting up at 10-1 in what looked a quagmire at Sandown today.

Owner Liz Prowting reminded Alan before racing that the only previous time Es Perfecto had run on the Esher slopes was 11 months ago, when  he started 6-5 favourite and trailed in last of eight.

However, from down the back on the second circuit nothing was travelling better than 10-year-old Es Perfecto, who jumped super and left his younger rivals struggling, powering up the run-in under Tom Bellamy to win by seven and a half lengths.

Alan said:”I’d imagine that the only reason Es Perfecto started at such generous odds was due to the form of our horses, but he never put a foot wrong and could not have been more impressive.

“Es Perfecto has run the occasional stinker, but he is a decent horse on his day. He won well at Kempton in November and we fancied him when he went back there over Christmas, but he ran disappointingly.

“We thought that he would run well next time out at Windsor, but they omitted the last fence on the final circuit which did not help him, and he folded up on the run-in.”

Revealing an update on the health of the stable’s horses, Alan added:”They had their annual vaccination in January, and it appeared to knock the stuffing out of them. The weather has done us no favours either, but this has happened to us before and I’ve found that the best way to get over it is to take a pull. The horses will tell me when they are coming right.”
