One Glance looks interesting on her turf debut at Bath tomorrow
September
Disappointments were few and far between from Barbury’s equine army during August, with Tritonic running a blinder in a Heritage Handicap at York’s Ebor meeting and both One Cool Dreamer and Troy Story coming up with pleasing efforts to finish off the month.
Our first runner in September is One Glance, who makes both her turf and handicap debut at Bath tomorrow, having run with plenty of promise on all her three runs so far on Kempton’s polytrack surface.
One Glance showed how much she had learned from her first appearance when, stepping up in trip, she finished a close third to Fairy Glen on the Sunbury course.
The form of that race got a real boost when Fairy Glen was later pipped in a photo-finish in a Listed race at Longchamp, while One Glance subsequently defied big odds yet again when third to the highly-rated Sea Just In Time. confirming the belief that she is clearly making great strides, too.
We have three runners on Thursday, all at different meetings. Oscar Palmer rides Gavi di Gavi in the apprentice handicap at Salisbury, the first time that the veteran has dropped down to Grade 6 company this season.
Gavi di Gavi did win two Grade 4 handicaps last winter and another Grade 5. He has been a great servant for the yard, and though seven of his eight wins have been on the all-weather, he produced one of his best efforts when winning on the grass over this trip at Sandown in July.
Next up for us is Blue Tempus, who makes his debut in the novice at Haydock with Hollie Doyle aboard. This Highland Reel colt cost 50,000gns at the Breeze-Up Sale at Newmarket’s Guineas meeting in May, so it will be interesting to see how he shapes first time up.
Our final Thursday runner is Advert Rules in the penultimate race at Wolverhampton’s evening meeting. Rhys Clutterbuck rides, and Advert Rules looked much happier not being faced with eight flights of hurdles when chasing home Kinetic over this course three weeks ago.
Kinetic had previously won at Windsor and she is a progressive filly who has climbed further up the handicap after winning again at Musselburgh recently, so that run of Advert Rules looks decent form.
