There is no place like Ascot for Blazeonfive
October 6
We signed off September with a winner, courtesy of Alcarath at Epsom, and we promptly made a lightning strike into October, with Blazeonfive winning the two-mile handicap at Ascot on Friday.
Everyone loves Ascot – Alan is adamant that the Royal meeting is his favourite of the whole year – and our evergreen seven-year-old mare Blazonfiveis, who has been a credit to her owner-breeders, Calne Engineering Ltd, is no exception.
She has won three times over the course from only four visits, and she clearly relished returning there last week as she dug deep to get the better of the four years younger favourite Double Meaning inside the final furlong.
Rossa Ryan, who has ridden so many of the Barbury winners on the Flat, was again on board and was full of praise for Blazeonfive., who was his 1,000th winner in the saddle.
He said:”She joined the stable nine months ago and she was on a mark of 84 when she had her first run for us on the Flat at Southwell in April. Happily, the handicapper has since given her a chance and dropped her a few pounds, but she has also been crying out for a bit of soft ground, so the combination of those two factors has reaped rewards.”
