Racing Club
We’re thrilled with the success of the Alan King Racing Club after our first season of racing – with two horses winning and all four being placed. With our first runner of the new term, I’d Go Maniac winning at Windsor for Georgia, there’s plenty more for our members to look forward to in the next 12 months.
We now have four carefully selected horses to provide our members with fun and entertainment, two for the Flat and two over jumps. During this period, as well as receiving owner’s badges to watch your horses at the races, we will welcome you to the yard to meet them, our staff and the stable stars, as well as to experience the wonderful facilities here at Barbury Castle.

The Alan King Racing Club
We’re delighted to launch the Alan King Racing Club with three carefully selected horses to provide our members with fun and entertainment for the 12 months ahead. During this period, as well as receiving owner’s badges to watch your horses at the races, we will welcome you to the yard to meet them, our staff and the stable stars, as well as to experience the wonderful facilities here at Barbury Castle.

Prize Money & Bonuses
Club members will receive 100% of their share of any prize money won throughout the contract term (July 31st 2027) and will also receive 25% of any GBB Bonuses won by horses leased to the Club.
Race Day Access
Race day badge allocation varies from racecourse to racecourse – but we will always endeavour to accommodate all members that wish to attend a race meeting. Sadly we cannot guarantee complimentary Owners Badges – but where possible, we will arrange additional badges (at cost). If oversubscribed for complimentary Owner Badges – they will be distributed fairly on a rolling rota basis.
Horse Leases & Guarantees
All horses will be leased by the Club from Alan King and we guarantee that there will always be three horses in the Club – should a horse be unable to continue racing (eg through injury or sale) then a substitute horse will be provided.
Communication & Updates
In order to provide excellent communication, the Club will be managed by a professional syndicate manager (Nick Brown) with over 26 years’ experience to ensure that the Club is fully compliant with all the new BHA regulations regarding syndicate management.
Photograph updates from an RCA accredited photographer (Debbie Burt) as well as written race reports and updates on the horses throughout the term.
Membership Cost
All this for an all-inclusive annual fee of £3,000 including 10% discount for up-front payment, renewable in 12 months on 31 July 2027 (or £275 per month).

I’D GO MANIAC (FR)
2019 gelding by Bow Creek ex Saint Goustan
I’d Go Maniac having won a bumper, was transferred to a Flat campaign in his first season for the Club, winning over 1m4f off his opening mark of 72 on the Tapeta at Wolverhampton. He has come into his own this spring and summer in amateur riders’ races for Georgia, narrowly beaten by a well handicapped horse on their first start together over 1m2f at Windsor and giving us all a great evening at Epsom when they finished third in the Ladies Amateur Derby. Reproducing that level of form over slightly shorter back at Windsor on August 3, they hit the front over a furlong out, staying on well to win by over two lengths off a mark of 68. He continues to give the Club plenty of days out and is equally at home on the Turf or the All Weather.
UHTRED RAGNARSON (IRE)
2021 gelding by Holy Roman Emperor ex Spanish Berry
Uhtred Ragnarson opened the Club’s account on his first start in our colours at Warwick over 2m and then placing on his next start at Market Rasen in a higher grade. Back on track after a couple of misfortunes at Newbury and Aintree, he proved he still had plenty to offer when a close third at Stratford after missing the start. Unsuited by the step up in trip to 2m4f at Uttoxeter last time, he’ll be back at 2m (or 2m2f on a sharp track) after the summer jumps break.
GHOST DANCING
2022 mare by Outstrip ex Sula Island (unraced)
Ghost Dancing is a homebred first foal out of Sula Island, who won on the Flat and over hurdles. Acquitting herself well in horrid weather to finish fourth on debut against more experienced fillies over hurdles at Hereford, she progressed nicely to be third at Ludlow. Heavier than expected overnight rain scuppered her chances next time at Fakenham on heavy ground, then she had her luck spoiled by being stabled next to the music stage at Newton Abbot on student day. However she was still a creditable fourth against much older and bigger mares. After that it seemed only fair to give her some time off in the field to strengthen and mature and she will be back in the autumn.
JOHN HARRISON
2023 gelding by Time Test ex Grande Bleue
John Harrison joined the team after Ghost Dancing went on her holidays. He had benefitted from being gelded since his last start in January and made a fine start for the Club at Salisbury in June, staying on well, over a mile, to finish a handy third. Stepped up to 1m2f at Newmarket the following month, despite concerns about another start on good to firm, he was again third, and though he was sound the next day, it’s felt that he doesn’t really let himself down on a quick surface and we’ll be looking for easier ground from here on.
