Daiquiri Bay looks to have solid each-way chance at Newmarket on Friday
October 9
James Doyle was gutted when the short head verdict went against him on King Hal at Nottingham on Monday, but he is hoping he might go one better when he rides Daiquiri Bay for the first time in the £50,000 plus Old Rowley Cup at Newmarket tomorrow.
Daiquiri Bay won his maiden at Chester first time out this season, and, while he has not managed to add to that success in five subsequent outings, he has run creditably each time.
Beaten only a neck at Doncaster, Daiquiri Bay did not enjoy the best of runs in the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot, and he has since finished in the frame in competitive handicaps at both Glorious Goodwood and York’s Ebor meeting,
Furthermore, he ran better than his unplaced position suggests at Ascot last time as the soft ground would not have been in his favour. Back on a fast surface at HQ, Daiquiri Bay looks to have a solid each-way chance.
Rossa Ryan, who normally partners Daiquiri Bay, will be on duty for us at Kempton’s polytrack meeting tomorrow night, when he rides One Cool Dreamer in the mile and a half handicap.
One Cool Dreamer, who won at Newmarket and Windsor last year, is 0-5 on the all-weather, but he was only beaten half a length by the useful Federated over this course and distance in April, since when he has been running well both on turf and over hurdles.
