Barbury are due a change of luck on day three at Goodwood

Goodwood this year has been far from glorious for Barbury, Obviously, the opening day was when we hit rock bottom. Losing Trueshan was a cruel blow and one which none of us will ever forget,  but then yesterday both Kurakka and Wisper suffered from their middle-distance races being run at funereal pace.

Both Kurakka, who finished a creditable third to Irish challenger Omni Man, and Wisper, who was only beaten a length and a half in fifth place in the fillies handicap, ran much better than that.

Indeed, the form of Wisper’s Windsor victory received a double-boost when the second and third both won subsequently, so this seven-year-old mare remains one to keep on side for the rest of the season.

We have two runners on day three. Daiquiri Bay would have an each-way shout in the opener, having been forced to race wide in the KIng George V Handicap at Royal Ascot, while our second two-year-old runner Deedaydiva is an interesting Churchill filly in the penultimate race.

And, while we are not represented at Goodwood tomorrow, Barbury make a triple attack on the final day, so here’s hoping that Lady Luck climbs aboard at least once during the week.
