Blazeonfive makes a good week look even better when winning at Nottingham

Few trainers are bowing out of February in better form than Alan, and Barbury made it 3-3 this week when Blazeonfive (9-1) followed up his recent Ascot success when coming from last to first to capture the mile and six furlong handicap at Nottingham today.

The rain we have finally been celebrating in late autumn suits the mud-loving Blazeonfive ideally, but Ciaren Fallon was worried before the race that lack of an obvious trailblazer among the opposition might find out his seven-year-old, who has been winning at two miles.

However, Ciaren need not have worried as Lightning Tiger set a good pace and the gallop increased from half-way. Blazeonfive is a hold-up horse, so Fallon had no option but to get him settled at the back, but he picked his way through the gaps up the straight and, taking command entering the final furlong, Blazeonfive powered away to win by a length and three-quarters.

Fallon said:”The race panned out better than I was imagining beforehand, and Blazeonfive really relished this rain-softened ground. He was only pricking his ears once we hit the front, so he has won well and granted similar underfoot conditions I don’t see why he cannot complete the hat-trick.”
