Bye Bye February – One Cool Dreamer can send it packing in style at Lingfield

February 26

Like most of us, Alan will be glad to bid farewell to February, and with no runners at Newbury’s two-day meeting, Barbury end the month on a quiet note on Saturday, with One Cool Dreamer running on the all-weather at Lingfield and Lightfingered Jack and newcomer Friendly Glance heading off to Doncaster.

One Cool Dreamer won twice on tor owners The Maple Street Partnership in the summer of 2024, but though he finished in the frame six times last year, success eluded him.

However, there was a lot to like about the seasonal reappearance of One Cool Dreamer at Wolverhampton earlier in the month. He looked the winner on the home turn, but was eventually nailed in the last stride, though dropping back to a mile and s half here could help him. Tom Marquand rides.

Lightfingered Jack is interesting in the maiden hurdle up at Doncaster and his dam, Polly Peachum, who was a seven-times winner over timber and was related to Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Denman.

Having been given plenty of time to furnish, Lightfingered Jack, who is now a seven-year-old, only made his racecourse debut last November, finishing second to a highly-regarded ex-pointer of Dan Skelton’s in a two and a half mile novice at Aintree.

Turning out five weeks later at Warwick, Robert Waley-Cohen’s gelding looked a place prospect approaching the home straight but stopped quickly and was allowed to coast home under Tom Bellamy. Fingers crossed he’ll show at Town Moor that his second run is best forgotten.

Our Doncaster debutant is Friendly Glance in the bumper. This home-bred four-year-old of the Pitchall Stud Partnership also comes from an illustrious family, with his dam, Call Me A Legend, having produced seven winners, which include Finest View, who was hugely popular at Barbury, being a nine-race winner himself.
