Ebor option for Bay after Royal Ascot success

Daiquiri Bay could be aimed at the Sky Bet Ebor Handicap at York in August following his tenacious success in the Copper Horse Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The son of New Bay made it two wins from as many starts since being gelded at the end of last year when following up his Newmarket success over Gamrai with victory over the same rival in the one mile six furlong contest.

And, having shown he gets every inch of that trip, Alan is now considering taking aim at the £500,000 prize over the same distance on the Knavesmire on August 22nd.

Alan said: “If you can go to Royal Ascot and get one winner on the board it is awesome. We might just sit and wait for the Ebor. We’ve not done anything with him since his win in the Copper Horse.

“He will be a much better horse when it rains as well so I wouldn’t want to keep running him on that quick ground.

“He would comfortably get in to the Ebor. He ran well in the Melrose over the same course and distance last year, but he is a better horse this year as well.”

While the Ebor has been mooted as a potential target for Daiquiri Bay plans remain on hold for stablemate Barnso, who finished a respectable fourth in the Ascot Stakes on his seasonal return.

Alan said: “He ran very well in the Ascot Stakes, but he came back a bit jarred. He will have a little spell off now, but we won’t run him on ground that quick again.”

And looking ahead to Saturday both Blazeon Five and Believitanducan could head up to Newcastle to contest the JenningsBet Northumberland Plate Handicap, a race Alan has won twice with Who Dares Wins (2019) and Trueshan (2022).

Alan said: “The plan is to run Blazeon Five, but I’ve just got see if Believitanducan gets in. However, he should get in the consolation race if not.”
