Daiquiri Bay is one of the three-year-olds that Alan has big hopes for in 2025, so fingers crossed all will go well in the novice (6.05) at Doncaster on Friday.

Town Moor are expecting thunder and heavy showers this week-end, and if the rain should arrive early on Town Moor there won’t be any complaints from Barbury as Daiquiri Boy, who is odds-on for his seven-runner race, confirmed that testing underfoot conditions are not a problem when belying big odds to finish a promising third on his debut at Newbury last back-end.

Daiquiri Bay, a son of the much sought-after stallion New Bay, impressed Tom Marquand when winning on his seasonal denut at Chester’s big meeting last month, but with Tom in action at Epsom tomorrow, Alan moved smartly and booked young starlet Billy Loughnane to ride last week-end.

Billy will also ride Blue Tempus for us in Doncaster’s finale. He was staying on strongly at the end when finishing fourth in a handicap at Newbury last time, so the extra two furlongs here ought to suit him well.

We have just the one runner at Epsom, with Hollie Doyle snapped up for Westerton in the mile and a quarter handicap. The final three months of 2024 were really disappointing for Westerton, but he showed much of the spark that enabled him to finish third in last year’s Northumberland Plate at Newcastle when sixth on his comeback at Goodwood in early May, so all is not lost.

And we have certainly not forgotten the jumpers. Baskerville, who made a winning debut over fences at Stratford last month, is likely to start odds-on to beat three rivals when he attempts the follow up ay Bangor, while Finest View, who made it third time lucky over the larger obstacles at Huntingdon a month ago, must have a major shout of doing likewise 35 minutes later.

Yet again we have a relatively light Saturday this week, with our only runner being Rockola in Worcester’s finale. She ran two excellent races at Ludlow and Fontwell, so ought to give Tom Bellamy a good ride.
