Whatever some jump racing fans may tell you, there is life after Cheltenham, and, while, Royal Ascot apart, this week’s four days at Prestbury Park are Alan’s favourite all year, he has always stressed that the Festival is not the be-all-and-end-all.

Obviously, it will take time for Alan to be able to erase the memory of Edwardstone failing to fire for the first time in his career on Wednesday, but he has never believed in having social runners there, which explains the fact that Barbury have only had two representatives at the home of steeplechasing this week.

Fingers crossed Dawn Vega, our first three-year-old runner of 2023, will get us back on track on the Flat at Chelmsford tonight.

Alan said:”Dawn Vega will come on for the outing, but he showed plenty of promise last year and was a bit unlucky when third in a nursery at Newmarket on his final start.

“He had to wait for a run but stayed on well at the end, and he looks to have improved through the winter for being gelded.”
