Insanity makes long trip to Ayr well worthwhile

Alan would not have had too many expectations from Royal Ascot this year, with the ground being rattling fast, but Daiquiri Bay ran well in the King George V Handicap, and Alan was still able to enjoy a double-celebration at the week-end, following the successes of Tennessee Orange and Insanity.

I was really satisfying to see Insanity bounce back to form in the Class 2 handicap up at Ayr as he had struggled since winning at the Shergar Cup meeting at Ascot last summer.

Alan felt that Insanity needed his comeback run at Newmarket’s Guineas fixture, having been off since November, and the five-year-old certainly looked sharper at Ayr, taking command 300 yards from home and beating off a string of challenges on the run to the post, winning by a length.

Connor Beasley, riding Insanity for the first time, was impressed. He said:”We went an even tempo, so he was a bit keen, but he travelled well and when I asked him to pick up at the two-furlong pole he responded immediately. I had seen videos of his previous races, so knew he had plenty of ability, and he has won well.”

We also had Westerton in the same race. He started favourite, but his best form is at 10 furlongs and the mile and five looked to find out his stamina in closing stages.
