“Delighted” beamed Alan when I asked him this morning how he rated Edwardstone‘s staying on second to King George-bound Djelo when going up to two and a half miles again in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon last Sunday.

Clearly chuffed to bits to have seen our money-spinning stable veteran show much of his old spark, just three and a half weeks short of his 12th birthday, Alan added:”I am so pleased that we don’t have to retire Edwardstone just yet. He ran a smashing race and the way he finished off his race raised the possibility of maybe running him over an even longer trip later in the season.

“The race certainly left us thinking that we don’t need to look at two-mile races for him again, and his next target will probably be the Silviniaco Conti Handicap Chase at Kempton on January 10.”

Edwardstone trailed in a distant fourth in that race two years ago, when going beyond two miles for the first time, but it was a much better effort than the finishing position suggested as he was a close third behind Banbridge and Pic d’Orhy jumping the third last.
