Spyce seeks Golden day out at Royal Ascot

Spyce will attempt to open his account for the current campaign when contesting the Golden Gates Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday.

The son of Too Darn Hot has yet to get his head in front in two starts this campaign having finished fifth in the Group Three bet365 Classic Trial at Sandown Park before going one place better in the Trade Nation London Gold Cup Handicap at Newbury last time out.

Although Spyce failed to make his first start in handicap company a winning one last time out that effort can be marked up after he was cut short of room at a crucial stage in the race.

And granted a clear run on this occasion, Alan believes that Spyce can build on that effort on his debut at the Royal meeting.

Alan said: “Spyce heads to the Golden Gates Stakes. He has been in great form at home and we are very happy with him. He might just be a pound or two too high to win, but we will see on the day.

“He has improved again since Newbury, but it was a solid run in the London Gold Cup. He didn’t get the clearest of runs, but he stayed on well at the end of the race.”
