Star sparkles in finale at Sandown Park
Albertini Star gave members of the Old Gold Racing syndicate plenty to shout about after gaining the first victory of her career with a decisive success in the Trainor Stone & Tile Mosaic Fillies’ Handicap at Sandown Park on Thursday.
Having reached the frame in each of her three previous outings this season, the daughter of Acclamation finally gained the change of luck she deserved when produced with a well-timed run by Oisin Murphy to clinch the ten furlong contest.
Anchored close to the rear for much of the race, Albertini Star made steady headway up the home straight in the hands of the five-time British champion Flat jockey before pressing on inside the final furlong to go and score by three lengths.
Murphy said: “Albertini Star gave me a lovely ride. She had speed to run at and she enjoyed passing horses. A mile and a quarter, with some juice in the ground, probably suits her well.
“Hopefully, she can now go on and build on this success.”
