With the rain lashing down all night at Newbury, I am delighted to be able to convey some more cheerful news to Barbury fans this morning – last night’s crowning of our stable-star Trueshan as Cartier’s Stayer of the Year.

One of the great bargain-buys at 31,000gns at Tattersalls Guineas Breeze-Up Sale five years ago, Trueshan has been an absolute star for Alan and the Singula Partnership, winning 15 races and amassing prize money just short of £183,000.

Trueshan thus becomes the first horse since the brilliant Persian Punch to regain the Cartier Stayer title, having previously won the award in 2021.

The first part of 2023 might have been a disappointment for Trueshan followers, but a wind operation midsummer worked the oracle and the seven-year-old recaptured all his courageous fighting qualities to win both the Doncaster Cup and Prix du Cadran at Longchamp.
